We're having some performance issues of late. I'm not sure whether its down to server or forum misconfiguration, or just plain forum growth.
I must admit we're not *that* big a forum, so I would expect our current server to be able to cope with the demand.
Our server load averages (at this very moment) are :
0.55 0.73 1.00 | 83 Users Online (52 members and 31 guests)
We normally have around 100 members on at times. We have the following daily statistics (on average) :
Members visiting : 500
New Threads : 80-100
New Posts : 800-1200
New registrations : 10-20
I've done the usual things :
Avatars, signatures and attachments are stored in the filesystem.
All options listed in the thread here have been implemented (except for the "Check Subscriptions" option).
Search is enabled (Members only).
Our database stats (from the AdminCP Home page) :
Data Usage : 233.35MB
Index Usage : 100.71MB
Attachment Usage : 105.0KB
Avatar usage : 2.97MB
Profile Picture Usage : 82.0KB
Now I'm experiencing a few admin problems, apart from the usual forum slowdowns.
1. To backup the database, I usually use the AdminCP > Forum Maintenance > Database Backup.
I select all tables to Yes, except for postindex. I then save that file locally. The biggest it's been so far is 150 Meg (Avg).
Now when I do it, the file starts downloading, then when it gets to around 10 meg, it seems to 'complete'. (Obviously it hasn't). I have no idea where this problem came from.
If I choose to use the same method but backup to the server, the process gets a little further, but seems to stop/complete at the 'pmreceipt'
Does anyone have any optimisation / ideas? I fear it could be putting some users off.
Thanks
