How come sometimes when I look on my forum at people currently online or ones that were online today there is an asterisk * after their name?

The asterisk shows that the user has chosen to remain invisible to other members, that means they are not shown on the who's online page and appear as offline in the profile or post bit as well. It's a setting he/she can choose in their profile. Admins are able to see these users as online though and the asterisk shows this status. -
