show no avatar if no avatar is selected.

Currently when a new user signs up.. in the posts the avatar is always set to point to avatar.gif

How can I disable it so its not pointed to any avatar... i copied over a blank image over avatar.gif which helps.. but there is always that little space there...

I'm using this same template elsewhere and do not have that issue..

That is not something the default vB does. That must be from an add-on or modification you installed. Find and remove that modification.
