Hi ,

i just wondering how can i change search letter limit from 4 to 3 ! i changed in vboptions but i heard that i have change something in my server too . but i have no idea where and how ...

any idea plz ?

Are you running the fulltext or the default vB search?

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Search Type

but be honest i didnt know the different between fulltext and default vb search !! would u plz explain me these 2 and tell me which one is better ?

MySQL fulltext search has a 4 character minimum word length by default. This can only be changed on the server level. There are also a number of 'stopwords' that are considered common and not indexed.

Here are the instructions for changing the default 4 character minimum in MySQL's full text search indexing:

but i have no idea where i have to find that file that i can edit ?! i have to looking after which file to edit ??

You have to have a dedicated server with root access to do that. You will probably need to ask your host to do this.

You need to edit my.cnf (or my.ini on Windows systems.)

ok i added ft_min_word_len=3 under [mysqld] and i restart server . would u plz tell me how can i rebuild full text table !
bcoz still i get this errorr for 3 words > Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

First, make sure you are not searching for one of the stopwords listed here:

Then you will need to removed the Fulltext Indices here:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Search Type -> Remove Fulltext Indices -> Yes -> Go

Then:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Search Type -> Empty postindex and word tables? -> Yes -> Go
