Ok that didn't do anything. Can I import that xml in the admin area as a new style xml?

What didn't work? What are you doing exactly and what do you expect to happen when you do it?

I would like the 'default' style to once again be the the default one it originally came with, because I accidentally uploaded a new style over the old default one and messed up all the child styles as well as half the modifications I installed are no longer working.

Admin CP > Style Manager > Revert all Templats (from pull down beside default style).

You will need to reapply the changes to the templats to get your modifications working again.
              Best Regards,
