forum "segmentation"

Hi,

How could I go about the following?

1. we have a main forums site that contains many categories/forums. This is on www.mydomain.com
2. we have created some subdomains that we want to provide our forums, but we want to limit it to only those categories/forums that pertain to this subdomain.

www.mydomain.com = displays all categories and forums
rockstar.mydomain.com = displays only the "Rock Star" forum

and so on.

We really want this under a single instance of vBulletin - especially since users can go to the www.mydomain.com site and access everything.

Well you can redirect the subdomains to the forumID link.

For example if you want to redicrect people to the How Do I section over here, redirect the subdomain to open " http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=119 "

Incase you don't know how. Best way to do it is through 301 htaccess redirection.

1. Create a file on the root directory of your website, name it ".htaccess" (incase you already don't have one)
2. Open the .htaccess file using notepad or what ever text editor that you prefer.
3. Add this into the .htaccess file, save it and then upload it to your web server

Redirect [COLOR=#800000]301[/COLOR] /directory http:[COLOR=#ff9933][I]//www.you.com/forumid[/I][/COLOR]

Don't add "http://www" to the first part of the statement - place the path from the top level of your site to the page. Also ensure that you leave a single space between these elements:


redirect 301 (the instruction that the page has moved)
directory (the original folder path and file name)
http://www.you.com/forumid (new path and file name)
