  • Forum Link in New Window?

When I set up a Forum Link is there anyway that I can have it open in a new window/tab?

  • #2
They auto load in a new window by default.

I have a Forum Link for one of my forums but it opens in the same window. Is there a setting to get back to the default.

I just noticed that vbulletin.com 's "vBulletin Customization @ vBulletin.org" forum link opens in the same window too. According to Floris, by default it will open in a new window. Where did you change the default?

Yes I've looked to see if I'd changed any settings.

I don't think I have or indeed why I would.

The links I have do open in the same window.
I managed to write some code in a .php file that solves the problem but it's not ideal.

bump again ... it would be good to get a yes or no answer to this.

Even the link from AdminCP to Forum Home opens in the same window.

Is there something I have inadvertently changed?

Sorry, I thought you meant a link on your forum, not a forum that's set to behave as a link. The latter doesn't load into a new window by default. You have to customize a template to identify it as a link and then add target="_blank" in the <a> link.

                forumhome_forumbit_level2_post

                find

                <a href="forumdisplay.php?$session[sessionurl]f=$forum[forumid]"><strong>$forum[title]</strong></a>

                replace with

                <a href="forumdisplay.php?$session[sessionurl]f=$forum[forumid]" <if condition="$forum['link']">target="_blank"</if>
                ><strong>$forum[title]</strong></a>

Doesn't work for me, still opens in same windows when I add that code to the specified template.

                    Hi Floris

Sorry but didn't work for me either.

It would be useful as I'd like to use it for a Radio TV product from vbulletin.org
The product needs the window to stay open so it streams.

I have a link to the product in my navbar which uses JavaScript, but would prefer to have a Radio & TV forum link so it gets noticed more.

                    Thanks

That does work from forumdisplay.php to get the link to open in a new window from forum home or the index change forumhome_subforumbit_nopost to:

                      <img class="inlineimg" src="$stylevar[imgdir_statusicon]/subforum_$forum[statusicon].gif" alt="" border="0" id="forum_statusicon_$forum[forumid]" /> <a href="forumdisplay.php?$session[sessionurl]f=$forum[forumid]" <if condition="$forum['link']">target="_blank"</if>
                      >$forum[title]</a>

Make the same change that Floris instructed to the following templates:

                        forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost
                        forumhome_forumbit_level1_post
                        forumhome_forumbit_level2_nopost
                        forumhome_forumbit_level2_post
                        forumhome_subforumbit_nopost
                        forumhome_subforumbit_post
