is there a way to have the hyper links in color text by default. That way when somebody inserts a link it is obvious to all and not hidden in the text that can only to be revealed by the mouse cursor changing unless the person making the post is kind enough to color their link.

Either change the class of the postbit text by editing the template and assigning a new class for the div that contains $post[message] or edit the alt1/alt2 classes via the style managers css editor.
