  • Child forum permission inheritance issue

Having an issue with child forum permission inheritance I can't figure out:

Usergroup Permission: Can Post Threads: Yes

Parent Forum: Can Post Threads: No (set in custom forum perms)

Child forum of ^: Can Post Threads: Yes (set in custom forum perms)

With the above, the usergroup cannot post threads in the child (permission error msg). If I set the parent to allow posts, then they can post in the child.

Attempted to duplicate with other permission settings to no avail, ie:
-- Parent: Allow polls - No.
-- Child: Allow polls - Yes.
Allowed usergroup to poll in the child.
-- Parent: Allow attach - Yes
-- Child: Allow attach - no
    Usergroup could not attach.

So..If I set 'Can Post Threads' permission in a child forum to 'Yes', and the Parent permission to No, the usergroup cannot Post a thread in the child.

Figured the fix to the problem - a bit odd however.

'Can View Thread Content' must be set to 'Yes'

    Reason why I say odd, is that according to AdminHelp popups, the description for the above setting is;

This permission controls whether or not users can view posts within a thread. This permission is independent of whether or not users can view the actual thread links within a forum.
I was attempting to set up a 'thread submission' forum - much like you have here for tips, etc.

Users can view the forum, view all forumdisplay thread titles, post threads, reply to their own threads.

Users cannot view other members thread content, reply to other member threads
