Do you have any modifications/plugins? If so, disable them.

Is it clear there was actual "hacking"? If so, I would speak with your host and look over any server logs. I would also go back and change your passwords to your database as well as your account (as well as update config.php with the new information).

Thanks. But as I said, no changes have been made in a long while. This happened just out of the blue. I am reinstalling the entire thing.

Our hosting company was attacked. HTML, PHP, FTP and everything else has been completely destroyed.

Time to ask them to restore a backup from 24 or 48 hours before and continue from there.

I can't, sadly. The entire hosting company has been shut down. I wouldn't be surprised if the backups were killed along with it.

Then there's nothing you can do. Get a new hosting company, install vBulletin fresh and start over.
