    vB Problems...

I am currently running 3.6.5 and something has become corrupted more than likely with my VB. Is there anybody that I could pay to take a look at my version of VB and see what exactly the problem is with my message board? My board is a fairly nice size board and I am not sure what exactly what happen. I ran repair and optimize tables and it didn't find anything wrong and restarted MySQL and everything worked ok for a about five minutes. I even posted and it worked. Then all of a sudden everything went back down again. The reason why I ask is I want to make sure what exactly is the problem and find out if I do need to upgrade to a better server. I am really confused at this point and my Website is not up and running. My server load keeps increasing and the weird thing is, there is hardly anybody on my site when this was happening.

I would appreciate any type of assistance.

    Thanks for your time,

    Jason

    hi,

You got any modifications installed ? some are known to increase the server load. For example vbShout .... or anything that makes an "overuse" of AJAX.AJAX is a nice technology but as with everything if you overruse it it becomes your worst nigihtmare. If you keep on havin problems i would submit a tech support ticket but in that case the first thing you will need todo is remove any hacks & template modifications and if needed upload the unModified vBulletin files again

      What error are you getting?

admin control panel > maintenance > optimize & repair > run optimize once, then go back and run repair once.

      This fixes most corruption.

I have ran the optimize and repair tables...that fixed the corruptions, but I have been working with the server guys and what is happening I think is I am getting attacked by bot....I will wake up at 4:30am cst and see say for instance 260 gusts on my board and I know that is not right...when I see the IP's the last two digits are incremented by one each time,, example... 01, 02, 03 and so on. I have a feeling that these bots are running and by the time people start logging ona nd posting on the board it causes more problems like database corruption and so on.

The server guy asked if you guys...

I'm not sure if vBulletin supports it, but perhaps you could see about
having it generate a static archive of the forum. Then use a robots.txt
file to restrict the bot to browsing that.

Any ideas what could be done, because I have a strong feeling this is my problem, because my site is not busy at 4:30am cst.

        Thanks,

        Jason

It's normal to get guests and bots on your site. Yahoo for example has over 500 connections to my site (sigh, so useless). You can click on the IP which tries to resolve it to a host, which might make more sense. It could of course also be a malicious user trying to flood your server.

If you have an error of vBulletin, what's the full error?

            Could I just do this...

Add a robots.txt file to the main directory via ftp with
the following inside to prevent googlebots from crawling the forums
            directory?

            User-agent: Googlebot
            Disallow: /forums

            When you say,
"If you have an error of vBulletin, what's the full error," what do you mean? The only error that I would receiv e was a ton of email saying v-bulletin error. I had over 3000.

            Thanks!

If you cannot share any actual errors with us, then it does make is rather difficult to help.
