  • Big Problem after upgrade

I backed up my DB before starting. I uploaded the new 3.67 files and overwrote the existing. AS soon as I did this I had a DB error. I restored the backup without any sucess.

    The site is now down.

What should I do to get this back up?

Thank you for contacting vBulletin Support.

Of course you will receive a database error when you upload the newest file on top of the older database. This is because you have not yet run the upgrade.php file. If you have restored to the old backup, you also have to restore the older version files again. It should then work, unless your backup is incomplete. In the resource list below I will link to our manual information about backing up, restoring and upgrading vBulletin.

If you have the backup restored now, upload the 3.6.7pl1 files, and then run upgrade.php all the way until you're back into the admin control panel again. This should upgrade you properly.

I hope this helps you get back online with your vB forum. If you have any further need for assistance feel free to ask.

    All the best,

I got the forum restored and upgraded. I think I had corrupted the new files. I have a problem now though. The forum appears normal, but when clicking on a message in the topics the actual message is not there. The template appears with no message just blank.

      Any ideas.

That may be a bad database.

First try rebuilding the thread and forum counters in that order:

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Update Counters

If that doesn't fix it, reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version:

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

[Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

        Next, disable all plugins.

Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?ph

        define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it. Do you have the same problem?
