  • Question about overhead (at mysql).

    Hi!

As far as I know overhead is caused by rows being deleted, leaving empty space. At this moment I have about 279.06 MB overhead in my post table. I can fix this by running a optimize, but shouldn't VB fix this by itself? (just wondering).

And how bad is it? Cause you can't expect every VB admin to check every week on the overhead and run an optimize.

No, running optimize and repair on the database after each action will be quite dramatic.

You can run this once a month (or week if you have this a lot) yourself.

      Ok!
But is it advisble to do so?

I mean: if it is it would be logic if "someone" had made this go automaticly, would't it?

No, it isn't advisable to do so after each action that could create overhead or if overhead is detected.

No, I don't mean after each action, more like once a month or so, using a VB cron.

Huge forums might time out and have issues. This is a maintenance tool that I think should be run server level, not software level. This might be a nice plugin for vBorg for someone to create as a monthly cron perhaps.

Here is some more info on optimize table; http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/...ize-table.html
