  • Test vB Set-Up (.htacess issues)

So I've got all the way to having .htaccess & .htpasswd files set up, but I have two problems. The first, the password log-in system doesn't recognise the password (I believe this is coming from the file url to the .htpasswd) whereas the second just loads the page with an Internal Server Error.

Could anyone post an example of what should be in the .htaccess file for password protecting a testvb because this part of it has me completely lost in terms of what to do for a solution? Thanks.

I might be overlooking the obvious, but I still can't get it right.

My last hosting company I had, I couldn't put an htaccess password and make it work. Dunno why, I always had to use the webCP

Look in your web control panel to see if you have a password protect directies option there, then create it and see what you are doing wrong.

Try this tool to create the files for you:

          http://www.tools.dynamicdrive.com/password/

When you have them, upload them as htacess.txt and htpasswd.txt
once online, rename them to .htaccess and .htpasswd

This way you ensure they're ascii too

Thanks ComputerVitals, I did it through the cpanel in the end.
