avatar images not showing in posts, but showing in user cp

please help..

we just upgraded to 3.6 and our avatars are not showing in the posts.

However, the correct avatar is showing in the user cp. it is showing as a broken image. so it is not a permissions issue.

When I check the properties of the broken image, the full path to the image is not there. the past stops at my forums folder.

All images are showing up in Admin, as well as in user cp.

Choosing an avatar is working, changing it is working. They are just not showing up in the posts.
