  • Error description: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL

    Support-

    I have been working on this for 4 hours and I can not get my newly purchased vBulletin installed.
    I am attempting a new install and I am having trouble getting past the following error.
    Error description: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock'

    I have read the "fixes" for this issue but I do not have shell access to my hosting acct.
    I have also enabled php5 in my .httaccess file, and tried to use the mysqli dbtype but when I do that, I get a completely different error.

    Please advise on how I can get it installed so I can migrate my phpbb2 installation and get my message board back online.

    Thanks in advance.

    Start with a new config.php.new file - rename it to config.php and edit it.

    Leave mysql type to mysql and make sure you have:

    1 mysql database
    1 mysql user
    a password for this user
    And that this user is added to the database you created.

    And that you have the host for this database, usually localhost unless your hosting provider specified a different host address.

    Then change the values between the '' on the right of the equal sign

    example

    $config['master']['variable'] == 'something';

    replace something with the appropriate value.
