Spacer between categories

Hi,

On my forum I have created 4 Categories called:

1. Cars
2. Bikes
3. Boats
4. Real Estate

As the layout is now the 4 Categories are stiched together.
I want to create a white space between the categories so it looks more like seperate categories. I need to go in the layout template of the index.php I guess....

Where can I find the index.php layout and secondly is it possible to create space between categories???
