Activation E-mail Problems

If hotmail and aol are not reciving emails theres a good chance your domain or host does not have proper reverse domain names setup. You'll need to ask your webhost about this one.

If users are not receiving the e-mail it is a whole different problem and probably an easy fix.

I get e-mails like this from my users who register, and are in the "users awaiting e-mail confirmation" category. Here are a few of them I have received over the past couple months:

"Hello! I found your Forum and really dig it! I Registered and received my email activation but I have tryed the links to activate my account several times and the response via IE is that it can not find the link! Please help! Thanks! My username is StlX"

"The links for account activation don't work. I am using firefox and it keeps saying the website is redirecting in a way that will never work. My login is autigers5252 and my activation code is 15109981.

Any help would be appreciated.

Since it only affects a small minority of users then this is undoubtedly a problem on their end - most likely their email client is not correctly displaying the activation link.

There really is nothing you can do about bad email clients (such as AOL's.) The standard activation email has a warning about this and provides an alternate method of activating their accounts. All they need to do is read that email and follow the instructions.

I seem to be having similar problems, people are getting a link to activate their account, but when they click on it, it says page not found?
Also someone clicking on the link to retrieve a password, it takes them to the same page (404)
Any ideas?

Sorted the problem, the sites ULR in the user CP was wrong!

The problem for my registrations is people who wait more than 24(?) hours to confirm their registration. If they confirm immediately, there are few problems.

Theres a 48 hour window while their activation code stays active.

So after that 48-hour window the activation code is "null and void". Am I reading that correctly?

Gotta share.....we've been using vBulletin for years....all versions...and this is the first I'm hearing about the activation code having a window of usage.

How can I extend that 48-hour window? I think that doubling it would save me 5 minutes per day answering emails. Just let me know what PHP file it is in and I should be able to find it.

I'm almost positive there is a window however I cannot find out where I remember reading this. I'll have to double check.

Hotmail seems to put activation emails in the spam folder. Had a few users with that problem.

Can Internet Brands (vBulletin parent company) contact Hotmail or Yahoo and ask about getting their SPAM filters to not filter out vBulletin activation emails? Seems like it would be a pretty easy and benign request...

While they are at it talk to Yahoo and ATT who automatically block EVERY IP unless the Server admin jumps through hoops. Within 60 min of turning on moved VB site on a new IP address YAHOO blocked email due to " complaints" How many complaints were registered and processed in 60 min ? NONE ...

i check 36 new user that use yahoo.com and yahoo.com.my didnt receive any user activation.

i tried confirming using yahoo.com. yet still didnt receive any email eventhough followed the procedure

the things that i didnt understand is, previous user aka early user who reg using yahoo email dont have this kind of problem.
