Some members can post new thread

We've just upgraded to a new server and I have a small number of members who can't create new threads. They can reply to other threads no problem. They are on a mixture of different browsers and pc /macs so not a specific issue.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Check the overall Usergroup permissions for each group these users are in:

Admin CP -> Usergroups -> Usergroup Manager -> Edit Usergroup

And the Forum permissions for each forum and Usergroup:

Admin CP -> Forums & Moderators -> Forum Permissions

These two things are both fine. On further investigation, they seem to be able to post if they change the thread title, although this seems a bit odd as the thread titles that didn't work weren't long and didn't use censored words, eg

I had the title called two weeks, tried about 4 times, didnt work, so I changed the title to yay for me.. and it worked...

I'm not sure I follow you. Creating new threads and changing thread titles are two different things.

They try to create a thread with one thread title and it doesn't let them create the thread at all. However, if they try to create a thread with a slightly different thread title, they can create the thread ok.

Weird. I don't see how that can happens with the original vB code and files. Have you installed any hacks or plugins? Can you duplicate this problem yourself?

Try logging in as one of these users to see if you have the same problem. If you don't, then the cause is somewhere on their end. It's impossible to know exactly what it is but some possibilities are: browsers, browser settings, Internet and security settings, ISP and/or cache issues, firewalls, ad-blockers, spyware, proxies and any other application that affects Internet content.

It's just in one section - the largest section that we have on the site. I've just upgraded to 3.6.2 (from 3.6.1) to see if that would fix the problem, but it hasn't.

I didn't occur until we transferred to a new server (not a new host, just a bigger machine at the same place) over the weekend. Does it sound like a file corruption during the transfer process?

The section I'm having a problem with has 6,748 threads and 112,455 posts. Would that make a difference at all?

I've upgraded to 3.6.2, that hasn't fixed the problem. But it's really odd, these are the issues:

a small number of people have issues starting a thread in a particular section if a particular word is in the title (it's not a banned word at all)
others can start a thread in some sections, but not others
                  it's a variety of browsers and pcs/macs
it's users for a variety of user groups

Does this sound like the transfer from one server to another has corrupted something? As the problems are not consistent across any one group of people or sections of the site.

Would you recommend reloading the software? In which case, do I just download the full package from the vBulletin site? And is there anyway that I can avoid having to redo the CSS Style, etc. I don't have any plugins or hacks - just some specialised usergroups, smilies and a very small number of customised templates.

Thank you - some of our viewers are starting to get really annoyed!

                    How does the software fail?
By that I mean, do they just get a whitescreen, a timeout, a particular html error, a vB error, etc? Have you requested the exact text of any error messages?

Are there any associated errors in event logs when the problem occurs?

How was the move made? Just copied over the files? Backup/restore? Did counters reset?

Some just get a blank page, others get a 'This page cannot be displayed', type of error message

I haven't looked in the event logs - how do I do that?

I didn't do the transfer, our web hosters did so I don't know what method they used. I don't know if they reset the counters, but I could do that if it would help

                          No, I can't.

They are user specific, but also section specific. So somebody who is having a problem starting a thread in one section, can start a thread in another section. But then another user will have completely different sections that they can't start threads in.

And it's just a handful of users - who are not in the same usergroup!

Should I just reload the software?

I've logged in as a couple of them and needless to say have absolutely no problem adding threads at all so I can't recreate the problem.

The only thing that has changed to cause this problem is us changing to another server and it's just odd to me that a person can start a thread in one section of our forum, but then not start a thread in a different section (when the sections have the same permissions, etc).

If it's cookies, browser, ad content specific (ad content doesn't change from section to section at all for us), etc, etc - can you give me some ideas of what I need to ask them to check at their end as I don't really have a clue what to tell them to do! (or where I might look to find this). Or do I need to get my web hosters to do anything?

Thanks for you help - it's much appreciated
