IP Address of unregistered users

Hi,

I am getting very worried by the amount of attempted spam to our forum. We have a very succesful site built up with a huge amount of effort that is currently being jeapordised by spammers putting all kinds of rubbish on the forum.

Basically, we have blocked the IP addresses and accounts which has worked for the most part of the users making these posts. However, some are still posting as guests. Without forcing registration or moderation (which defeats the purpose of an open forum), how can I identify the IP address of the person making a post if they are an unregistered user. Desperately need help on this as we have many young users accessing our site, parents etc and some of the spam is pornographic and could jeapordise our whole forum and site which is educational.

Do you have IP logging enabled?

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Message Posting and Editing Options -> Log IP Addresses

With this enabled, each post will have an IP that you can view by clicking that image in the post itself.

Sry, should have checked first - I do have enabled but I have option selected as: Display, but require administrator or moderator - I assume this means that I can see the IP address if I am logged in as administrator for the post. However, I cannot see the IP address on the posts even when I am logged in as an administrator.

I would be very grateful for your help in knowing where I should look. I would prefer not to display IP addresses publicly because I feel this might compromise the security of people making posts on the forum.

There should be a small icon of a computer next to the "Report Post" icon. Hover your mouse over it.

Those posts might not have IPs logged for some reason. You can see all IP logs as admin.
