How do you create a poll?

I searched the entire online manual for 3.6.2 and nowhere does it say how one creates a poll. It describes several things you can do with one after its created, but no joy on how to create one in the first place.

I suspect it is really simple, and I'm going to feel stupid. But I honestly can't figure out how to do it. As far as I can tell, I have the right permissions set in the usergroup manager panel.

You create a Poll just like creating a Thread, except choose the Poll Options under the message area when making your post.

Poll options? I don't see any. I don't see them on this forum either.

What I do see is the NEW THREAD buttons, a FORUM TOOLS pulldown that lists POST A NEW THREAD and some other options but none related to polls. Underneath that I see a MODERATION header above a pulldown list that includes DELETE THREADS and a bunch of others but nothing to do with polls.

Below that I see a DISPLAY OPTIONS box with several pulldown lists, but again no mention of polls.

Below that, the 6 icons for thread status.

Below that, POSTING RULES and FORUM JUMP, neither of which mention polls.

      What am I missing?

Ah, I found it. On the message composition page, down below the bottom of the screen where I've never scrolled before. I knew I was going to feel stupid!

Seems odd to me that you apparently have to create a post IN ADDITION TO the poll itself. But it isn't a big deal, and probably helps to force you to write something to explain the poll.

Shouldn't the online vBulletin manual say something about how to create a poll, however? I can't be the first one to have asked how.

Yeah i was wondering these two things myself.

I would love to create a poll that becomes a thread of its own, rather than having a thread and poll created at same time. I dont want people to chit chat on the poll, i just want them to cast their votes.

Anyone know how to accomplish that?

There's no such function, it can't be achieved without custom code.

It does seem rather over-complicated. Thanks for asking. I spent quite some time searching the online docs trying to get this answered!
