Stuck on Step 2: New Install

Attempting to install 3.6.2 on a Linux based server with PHP Version 5.1.4 and MySQL Version 4.1.21-standard

On Step 2, the screen does nothing. I get no errors.

My config.php is as follows:

Database Type = mysql (I get an error if I try mysqli)

Force Empty SQL Mode = true

Server Name = localhost

I even added the Full Path to Forums.

Any help is appreciated. (I've done about four installs and 10 upgrades and this is the first time I ever run into a problem like this.

This server's PHP and MySQL were just upgraded and has never run VB before.

First change the following setting in your config.php to false:

$config['Database']['force_sql_mode'] = false; 

If that doesn't solve your problem, please reupload all the original vB non-image files. Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server.

I tried all as suggested and still the same problem.

I even downloaded 3.5 and get the same problem, which is, it seems to stay stuck on Step 2.

Funny thing is no matter what I call the database or give a different databse server name, I get NO errors ... just the blue page waiting for the program to connect to the database.

Here are the most common causes for whitepages:
1. You did not upload the vB files correctly. Reupload the vB non-image files and make sure you upload these in ASCII format and that you overwrite the ones on the server. Make sure you upload the Admin CP files to the admincp directory specified in your config.php file.

2. You have extra space or lines in your config.php file. Make sure there is no whitespace or extra lines in config.php either before the <?php or after the ?>.

3. You have a bad plugin installed. To disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

4. The servername setting in config.php is wrong. Doublecheck this setting. 99% of the time, 'localhost' is correct:

$config['MasterServer']['servername'] = 'localhost';

5. Your PHP has magic_quotes_sybase turned on. You have to run this off. On *nix systems you can do this by creating an .htaccess file with this content and placing it in your main forum directory:

php_flag magic_quotes_sybase 0

6. [For multiple white pages] You have added code to your header, headinclude or phpinclude templates that is no longer functional.
[For white pages in a select area] You have added code to one of your templates that is causing this problem.

7. You have a corrupted template. Repairing the template table may help:
REPAIR TABLE template;

8. You have GZIP enabled. Try turning GZIP off here:
Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Cookies and HTTP Header Options -> GZIP HTML Output -> No

Or by running this query:
UPDATE setting SET value = '0' WHERE varname = 'gzipoutput';
Sometimes this problem is caused when your server is already using GZIP and by turning this on in vB you were double compressing. This causes problems with some pages but not others. It also happens to some people and not others.

Thank you for the quick response, but all suggestions provided either did not work or apply to this situation.

This is a new install. This server has never hosted vBulletin before. I created a MySQL empty database, and Step 2 just can't seem to connect to anything.

I click on "Connect to Database" and it just idles there. Nothing happens.

The install program recognizes my config file, knows it's there, because when I try to use MySqli, it gives me an error.

So, when I tell it to use mysql, it's as if it tries to do nothing from there. For the SQL Server address, I changed to to anything just to get an error, and I don't.

It's almost as if stops reading the config file after line 26.

Whats the solution to this? I'm having the same problem with the 4.1.7 package. Bookmarked waiting for a response
