  • Can't dismiss news in 3.6.2

    When I click dismiss, I get this error:

    Fatal error: Field dismissednews is not defined in $validfields in class vb_datamanager_admin in \includes\class_dm.php on line 485
    I did not change class_dm.php since 3.6.1 but the announcement post did not say I need to. Anyone else have this problem?

    For errors like this, and for upgrades in general, it is best to upload the original PHP files for your version, even if those files aren't in the changelog for the upgrade.

      When I click "dismiss news", I receive this error
      Code:
      Invalid SQL:
      UPDATE administrator SET
          dismissednews = '11'
      WHERE userid = 3;

      MySQL Error : Unknown column 'dismissednews' in 'field list'
      Error Number : 1054
      I'll be the first to admit I have no idea what this means, but I also get a similar error

      Code:
      Invalid SQL:
      UPDATE administrator SET
          ### Bitfield: administrator.adminpermissions ###
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 4, adminpermissions, adminpermissions + 4),
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 8, adminpermissions, adminpermissions + 8),
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 16, adminpermissions, adminpermissions + 16),
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 32, adminpermissions, adminpermissions + 32),
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 64, adminpermissions, adminpermissions + 64),
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 128, adminpermissions, adminpermissions + 128),
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 256, adminpermissions, adminpermissions + 256),
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 512, adminpermissions, adminpermissions + 512),
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 1024, adminpermissions, adminpermissions + 1024),
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 2048, adminpermissions, adminpermissions + 2048),
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 4096, adminpermissions, adminpermissions + 4096),
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 8192, adminpermissions, adminpermissions + 8192),
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 16384, adminpermissions, adminpermissions + 16384),
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 65536, adminpermissions, adminpermissions + 65536),
              adminpermissions = IF(adminpermissions & 32768, adminpermissions - 32768, adminpermissions),
          cssprefs = '',
          dismissednews = ''
      WHERE userid = 1205;

      MySQL Error : Unknown column 'dismissednews' in 'field list'
      Error Number : 1054
      When I try to change admin permissions for my staff members.

        This error means that you skipped one or more upgrade steps. Run this query to add that field:

        ALTER TABLE administrator ADD dismissednews TEXT;

          Hmmm, I swear I went thru the upgrade step by step, start to finish. However, running the query you posted for me did do the trick, so I must've screwed up somewhere.

          Will it hurt anything if I run thru the upgrade again?

          Thank you very much, Steve, for your quick and knowledgeable response.

            Don't run the upgrade again. If you have any other errors please post them.
