The first error is most likely due to an error in your config.php file, as your server is refusing access to the database with the username and password supplied.

The second error may be plugin-related. If it happens again, try disabling plugins.

3 errors all saying the same thing

You need to adjust your config.php file, specifically the database username and password to match with what you have on your server.

Check with your host if your are unsure of the details.
            Lats...

                access denied for user

I get the same error. My username is root and the password is correct. The database name is correct. What else should I try?

Gullystation; I see you suceeded in getting your vBull to work. What did you do? Why does it say using password: NO when I have the password in the config.php correct?

Please, any help or suggestions are most appreciated.

                  access denied for user

Hello, I am answering my own post just in case someone searches for this problem here on vbulletin.com. You will find no solutions here, the default reply is "consult your host." Well, I am the host for my vBull board so that really does not work for me, and I suspect others find this stock response a bit lacking. I found a comprehensive solution to the ACCESS DENIED or DOES NOT SUPPORT AUTHENTICATION PROTOCOL at the mysql forum:

Some fellow named glatts from Brazil solved it, so if the link does not work search for that user and Brazil, you will find it works like a charm. Good luck to all and I hope you don't spend as much time on this as it seems others have; my board was down 5 days because of this bug.
