Managing multiple usergroups / forum access

On a site I am running, we have about 2 dozen public usergroups for gaming clans. Each clan also has thier own forum which is private to the others.

Adding new usergroups and forums has become a chose as I am having to edit all the existing usergroups and forums when a new one is created.

I am sure theres an easy way of doing this but im obviously missing it. Any suggestions?

edit: The current layout is like this.

    - Clans (catagory)
    -- Clan 1 (forum)
    -- Clan 2 (forum)
    -- Clan 3 (forum)
    -- Clan 4 (forum)
    etc

Use secondary groups, where all users belong to the same primary group which has the base permissions that are common to everyone, and each secondary group has access only to one clan forum.

In your Usergroup Manager, make sure the primary group has the Allow Users to have Member Groups option enabled. Then set each clan group (will be used as secondary group) to have No on everything (the excess No permissions don't matter for secondary).

In your Forum Permissions, edit only one group for each clan forum such that each clan group has Yes permissions in its respective forum.

When giving access to users, just add them to the appropriate clan group(s) as secondary groups to grant access.

I have the same situation, however I will have a much higher number of private forums.

Is there any potential issues with performance if I have hundreds of private forums (and therefor hundreds of secondary usergroups)?

When creating usergroups, be able to use the 'Use permissions from existing usergroup' option at the bottom.

Yes. The datastore size increases with every forum and usergroup. There are alternate datastore access methods in the includes/config.php file if you notice any slowdowns.
