Settings in the vBulletin Options (like minimum word length for search) will have no effect if you are using the MySQL fulltext search.
    ooooh!

so if i use the "Remove Fulltext Indices" i switch to the "vBulletin search engine"?
    is that correct?
    - what are the pros/cons?
    - what is suggested to be used?

    many thanks for your help!

If you wish to revert to the vBulletin search engine, please continue. You can leave the Fulltext indices in place if you expect to return to the Fulltext search in the near future. Leaving them in place will cause added load on your system in the interim.

    Remove Fulltext Indices -> YES

    update
    if i search for

    *VCD*

    the thread is found
so vb maybe realy sees 'Autoplay for SVCD/VCD' as on word.

but intersting that it finds it by searching for SVCD what would also be a part of the word :S

It's not in the vBulletin Options itself, but in the vBulletin Options menu.

So: AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> Search Type
opposed to: AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> vBulletin Options -> General Settings

Try renaming the thread to 'Autoplay for SVCD / VCD'.
if i search for SVCD the tread is found.
i will try to rename the thread, rebuild search index and search again.

To view your current search type, go to:
AdminCP -> vBulletin Options -> Search Type

    i have:
    - Message Searching Options
    - Message Searching Options (Default Search)
    - Message Searching Relevance Options (Default Search)

    i just set
Search Index Minimum Word Length = 3

    rebuilded the Search Index

when i now search for VCD

i still get Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

could the thread title "Autoplay for SVCD/VCD" cause this?

i mean the "/" in it.
