  • Importing Large User Base

I'm trying to combine about 5 forums into one large one. There are 3 forums running vbulletin and 2 running mybb. I want to import all the users into one large vbulletin forum.

My question is which fields in the 'user' table need to have values?

I was thinking about importing a new 'user' table with these fields filled in (the rest of the fields would be left blank):
    userid
    usergroupid
    username
    email
    styleid
    showvbcode
    usertitle
    ipaddress
    joindate

*Also for users coming from other vbulletin forums, I would include there password and salt code.

Use ImpEx (available in the member's area). It can import from both vBulletin and MyBB.

Can Impex handle combining multiple user databases? Also, I don't need anything but the userbase (I don't want to import threads, forums, attachments etc.).

Yes, you just have to run multiple imports. I recommend turning off all of the forums and making backups after each import in case you have to revert.

Can Impex be set to only import the user databases?

Yes, you can run just the user module on the import screen.

I can't figure out what 'Associate users' does? Does it match up users to make sure there aren't duplicates?

Should I run this before importing the users or after?

That is only needed if you want to match up accounts on your vB and source that have diffferent email addresses.

Some of my users are members of all the forums I'm importing. I don't want to have several accounts for the same user. How can I deal with this?

You would have to associate these users at each import. Or you can manually merge accounts after the import. I don't know of an easier way.

So would the process be something like this:

                      1st Import:
                      Check and Update Database
                      Associate Users
                      Import User
set all these import id's to 0 (somehow)

                      2nd Import:
                      Check and Update Database
                      Associate Users
                      Import User
set all these import id's to 0 (somehow)

... and so on for all the user databases.

Yes. You can reset the import session between each import by running these queries:

                        Code:
                        DELETE FROM datastore WHERE title='ImpExSession'
                        Code:
                        DROP TABLE vbfields
Any duplicate usernames will be prefixed with "imported" so you can later identify and deal with them.

So is that what the manual means by 'set all these import id's to 0'?

I am not sure about that. If you post in the import forum then they might know.
