  • Exclude RSS Topics from Forum RSS

    I don't want my forum's RSS to be filled with news RSS. Is there a way to exclude certain forums from being show?

    I am only aware of an "include" option, like this.

      I have the same problem in that my news feeds are showing up as "latest active threads" or "new posts"... I've fixed the new posts problem but cannot figure out how to fix the latest active threads such that my news feeds don't show up on external.php!!

      Any help is much appreciated.. my site is being overloaded by nothing but new "news" threads.

        I ended up creating a subforum just for news posts and leaving it out of the feed with this code:

        http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/v...r_implementing

        You can refine the listings by specifying forumids in the path. For multiple forums separate them with a comma. This will limit the feed to the specified forums only. (Below example uses xml as type, but it works with rss, rss2, and js too)
        http://www.vbulletin. com/forum/external.php?type=xml&forumids=1,2,3,4
        (added a space before .com so it wouldn't shrink the URL)

        I included all the forums in the forumids list aside from the one I created for RSS. Works like a charm. Link in my sig if you want to see how it looks.

          Slightly off-topic from the original poster but your answer is here:
          http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=128445

          I personally took out the <if> clause and just changed it to:
          Code:

          <td class="vbmenu_control"><a href="search.php?$session[sessionurl]do=getdaily&exclude=629,630,631,632,633,634,635,636,637,638,639,640,641,741" accesskey="2">$vbphrase[new_posts_nav]</a></td>
          Don't forget to do the "do=getnew" also.

          Yeah I have a lot of news forums!

            I was able to get that task completed already! my current problem is with listing "latest forum discussions" on the front page of my website. Since the news forums are "new" threads, it still sees those in the syndication/rss and that's what i'm trying to eliminate. I'll try the above approach first and see if that doesn't do the trick!!

              The way I did it worked great, but like I said, I had to isolate the new posts to their own forum to do it. This is what my code looks like:

              HTML Code:
              <script type="text/javascript"
              src="http://boards.slackercentral.com/external.php?type=js&forumids=1,11,138,9,10"></script>
              		<ul><script language="" type="text/javascript">
              		<!--
              		for (x = 0; x < 10; x++)
              		{
              		document.writeln("<li><font size=2 face=verdana><a href=\"http://boards.slackercentral.com/showthread.php?t="+threads[x].threadid+"\">"+threads[x].title+"</a> ("+threads[x].poster+")</font><br />");
              		}
              		//-->
              	</script></ul>
              Turns out great! I think I like it better having the RSS posts in a separate location too - users don't like sorting through 100 of those to find each other's threads.

                That did work great!! I definately had some incorrect code in the last try.

                here's another question for you tho... Is there a way to make the news forums as "always read" forums.. as in, it doesn't show the "new post" graphic?

                my users are complaining because they go into a thread and the only new news is "news" and not "posts" by other users... so they'd like the news there, but don't want it showing the forum as new via the forum graphic.

                  The only way I can think of to do something like that would be to add some kind of conditional to the forumbit template that checks for the specific forum number and just displays a static "no new posts" icon instead of the standard dynamic graphic.

                  Find this in either your forumhome_forumbit_level1_post or forumhome_forumbit_level2_post:

                  Code:
                  <td class="alt2">
                  <if condition="$forum[forumid]=='176'">
                     <img src="images/statusicon/forum_old.gif" alt="" border="0" id="forum_statusicon_$forum[forumid]" />
                  <else />
                    <img src="$stylevar[imgdir_statusicon]/forum_$forum[statusicon].gif" alt="" border="0" id="forum_statusicon_$forum[forumid]" />
                  </if>
                  </td>
                  I added the conditional in red. It basically says if the forumid is 176 (that's my news forum, edit that obviously), then display the forum_old.gif icon. Otherwise, it'll display either icon depending on the status of the subforum.

                  Hope that makes sense.

                    Sorry to dig up an old thread but I've just had the same issue. Seem's I am not alone here...

                    Almost as if we need a new option on the forum editor in Forum Manager to "Include this forum in the forum's RSS?".
