  • User Control Panel doesn't work

Our web host recently moved our board to a new server. Every time they do this something screws up. Last night no one could login to the board so tech support just re-uploaded that folder from their last backup.

Today no one can get into their user control panel,we get a database error. And their tech support is taking forever to figure it out.

Does anyone know what this could be and how to fix it?

without being able to see for myself it kind of is a grey area.. but why do they keep moving your website?..

They haven't moved it in a while but in the beginning they'd move us around a lot and every time we'd get database errors. This time they moved us to a "better" server because the old one was giving them problems.

And oddly enough we can get around the problem by clicking in "Private Messages" and using the links in the left sidebar.

      Here is the error:

      Database error in vBulletin 3.5.0:

      Invalid SQL:

      SELECT thread.threadid, thread.forumid,
      IF(threadread.readtime IS NULL, 1236283286, IF(threadread.readtime < 1236283286, 1236283286, threadread.readtime)) AS threadread,
      IF(forumread.readtime IS NULL, 1236283286, IF(forumread.readtime < 1236283286, 1236283286, forumread.readtime)) AS forumread,
      thread.lastpost, subscribethread.subscribethreadid
      FROM thread AS thread,
      subscribethread AS subscribethread
      LEFT JOIN threadread AS threadread ON (threadread.threadid = thread.threadid AND threadread.userid = 21)
      LEFT JOIN forumread AS forumread ON (forumread.forumid = thread.forumid AND forumread.userid = 21)
      WHERE subscribethread.threadid = thread.threadid
      AND subscribethread.userid = 21
      AND thread.visible = 1
      HAVING thread.lastpost > IF(threadread > forumread, threadread, forumread);

That field should definitely exist so my guess is that they did not make a complete backup of the database. Check the database with phpMyAdmin. Which fields do you see for the thread table?

threadid title firstpostid lastpost forumid pollid open replycount postusername postuserid lastposter dateline views iconid notes visible sticky votenum votetotal attach similar ezboardimport hiddencount

          Threadread is:
          userid threadid readtime
          but there's nothing in it.

          cpsession is: userid hash dateline
          and is also empty.

          Threadrate is empty too.

          If that helps.

I don't see how you can get that error then, unless it's due to a modification or a server issue.

To troubleshoot this, first reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version and that none show 'File does not contain expected contents':

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

[Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

            Next, disable all plugins.

Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

            define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it.

Do you have the same problem?

Note: vB 3.5 is end-of-life and no longer officially supported.
