my forumhome shows the total posts on the index page as i monitor the total posts all the time

    it is ok

but i noticed that when i am checking a new post no. i found the number is higher than the total posts

ie post no. is 10500 and total posts is 10000
    why ?

The postid numbers aren't to count posts, they're only an internal identifier.

You could query the database to find the exact post.

I think you could only do it with SQL.

Anyhow .. to give you the reason I'm sure you're wondering about .. most of your missing threads would be the sum of your deleted threads and redirected threads. Once a thread gets deleted the old thread ID never gets reused. With redirects .. vB basically uses a new thread to hold the redirect itself .. so a redirect thread would actually use up 2 thread IDs.

Not sure if there's other reasons for the difference .. but those 2 alone could count for a lot depending on your site!
