  • Upgrade & Testing

I am in the process of moving host and upgrading from 3.5.5 to 3.6.4. I am going to leave the upgrade of the board untill I have everything working at the new host.

    What I did & question:

I made a backup of the database (closed forum, run a check on tables) and then saved it to my local workstation. I copied all the site files to my workstation and the ftp'ed them back onto the new location. I imported the database (no errors) and changed the config file to reflect the testing environment.

The problem I have is that the boards response time is extremely poor in relation to the shared host where I was as I've now moved to a VPS. This baseline is with no users even using the board. I haven't made my new ns entries thus I am using IP address of the new server until testing is done.

Would the use of a IP ( http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) instead of a name (http://mysite.com) have any influence on performance maybe DNS lookup or something within vBulletin?

On a normal clean install of vBulletin (3.5 aqnd 3.6) at my new host using a a IP it is lightning fast.

    Anyone any input?

    Thanks

Hard to say for sure. Have you done a traceroute to see if there is a routing issue?
