How do we get the forums to work with Blackberry's??

More and more of our forum members are using Blackberrys to access the internet, emails, etc. http://www.blackberry.net/

But it appears they cannot access all of the Vbulletin forums that are password protected and they cannot log in.

This new technology is going to be around for decades and we need to figure out how blackberrys can access vbulletin areas.

What do you mean?

Create new usergroup(s) for the members you want to have access to the particular forums - you could also include promotions here if you wanted to do it that way, i.e. automatic entry based on some criteria.

Then allow entry to those forums for those usergroups only.

I'm not familiar with the Blackberry, so I don't know if the browser supports cookies or user authentication, so if so the user is able to log in, they'd have access to those special forums. If not, then ignore what I've just written!

It would be better to allow anyone who has a Blackberry access rather than setting access up for specific members.

I occasionally browse our Forums using a PDA:

But as I say, I'm not familiar with the Blackberry which I assumed was largely an e-mail tool for when you're out and about. My phone has a web browser on it, but I wouldn't want to interact with a message board using it...

Just checked and confirmed: if the users can't access the board using the web browser of the Blackberry then that may be - presently at least - a deficiency of the browser.

Using my iPAQ PocketPC, I logged in to our board and had access to the Admin-only forums. Closing down and restarting the browser had logged me out and logging in as my test user account only gave me access to the 'normal' Member areas.

Just done another check and could log in, read and post using the iPAQ's web browser and the full version setting of vBulletin.

So an iPAQ works just like a Desktop for logging in to a VB site, retaining the log in with the "Remember Me" cookie, posting, replying, etc . . .

And the Blackberry does not??

I was in archive mode as a guest (not logged in). The "PDA" link showed up and I clicked it of course although using my trusted PC.
I logged in and got following error message:

Here in the UK Blackberry is planning a range of direct marketing activities to promote its brand beyond its core middle-management audieance to a younger market.

The Blackberry Pearl, to be launched this month, has a built-in MP3 player and camera.

Opera has the opera mini series browser for blackberry which does the job nicely and its free, not sure about compatibility for your device mine is a 8707v 3G on vodaphone so its good and quick for browsing net
