    Login problems - VB 3.5.4 & PhotoPost 5.31

    Hello All,

I work at a newspaper.com (dailypress.com) and we're launching a companion site that features User Generated Content. We have purchased VB and PhotoPost for this functionality. I have enabled full integration, but I am having very inconsistent problems with Logins not "persisting," that is to say that when users that have logged in switch back and forth from VB to PP, they appear to be logged out. Also, when they click "upload photos," "new thread," or "reply to thread," they are sent to a screen that tells them they are not logged in. This is a huge problem, as it appears to happen randomly.

I have looked at the support forums for both products of course, and I suspect that my Cookies are not working properly, although I have checked them again and again for correctness. They seem to be correct. Can somebody please help me with this problem? I have exhausted all options for fixing this myself.

I have created a registered user for you to use:
    user: test2
    pw: test2

    the Forum URL is: http://www.dailypress2.com/forums/index.php
    the PhotoPost URL is: http://www.dailypress2.com/photopost/

I am using MySQL 3.23.58 and PHP 4.4.1

I am cross-posting this to both VB and PP support forums.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

We cannot provide support for Photopost problems of forums running non-vB code. You need to ask for help with this at Photopost.

Also please be aware that your version of MySQL is many years out-of-date and is well below the minimum required to run vBulletin. You need to upgrade to at least MySQL 4.0.16.

Thanks for the warning about MySQL. I understand that you do not provide support for PhotoPost, but I am having the same problem with VB. Does that not warrant support?

Also, do you think this problem is due to my outdated version of MySQL?

Sure, if you have the same problem with an unmodified vB. Although since the issue is when they 'switch back and forth from VB to PP' I don't know how that can be.

Nonetheless, reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file.

        Next, disable all plugins.

Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

        define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it. Do you have the same problem?

          Thanks for the advice.

Regarding MySQL: we're launching the site tomorrow, and I'm hesitant to upgrade MySQL the day before we go live. What kind of problems can I expect with using such an old version?

          Thanks.

Still having the logout problem. I'd really appreciate it if you could take a look at my integration and see if it's right. I think I gave you all the info needed in my original post. If you don't have time i completely understand. But I do have two questions:

1 - does the cookie timeout actually log you out when it expires? i Googled this issue and there seems to be a lot of confusion out there about this. if so, I'll just change it to an hour or so... and,

2 - where do i actually set the cookie prefix to "bb" in VB? I have found all the other cookie settings for both VB and PP, but i can't find the prefix setting in VB. I even looked in the database using PHPMyAdmin. Where is it?

            Thanks!

Did you follow my instructions in post #4??

              1. Yes.

              2. The cookie prefix is set in config.php.
