    This has never been a problem before, and now in the last few days every time I try a backup, it freezes at just over 1mb downloaded.

    Am I the only one with this problem? I've been doing this for over a year now, and this is the first problem I've encountered with it.

    That's a server issue.

    Note: The only consistently reliable method of backing up and restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. This is because backing up with a PHP script like that in the Admin CP or phpMyAdmin can result in PHP timeout errors and an incomplete backup file. Please see the instructions here:
