  • How do I know which fonts to use on my board?

One font I like to use is Maiandra GD, so I added it to my board (for "bigusername", forum titles, etc) and all seemed fine until I visited my board from a different computer and realized the font wasn't showing-up. And I figure that's because Maiandra GD isn't installed on the actual (different) computer itself; which leads me to the following questions:

Is it true that a person can't view any (text) font on any site if the computer that person is using doesn't have that particular font installed on it?

And if that's the case; how do we, as vb owners, know which fonts we should use and which fonts we shouldn't use? In other words; when we come across a new font we want to add to our board, how do we know if our members and guests will be able to see it? Is there like a list of fonts basically every computer has (by default) so that we can choose from those particular ones or something?

Note that if a font is not installed on the system of the user who browses your forum it won't display and defaults to times new roman.

Well, thanks, that answers my first question; but...

how do we, as vb owners, know which fonts we should use and which fonts we shouldn't use? In other words; when we come across a new font we want to add to our board, how do we know if our members and guests will be able to see it? Is there like a list of fonts basically every computer has (by default) so that we can choose from those particular ones or something?
Even new vb boards come with other fonts besides Times New Roman, such as Verdana and Geneva, so there must be a set standard (most computers have installed on them by default) to choose from; or else they (vb) wouldn't assume most people who visit their boards are going to be able to view them. Do you see what I mean?

Fonts must be available on the user's PC for these to show.

I understand that, but that's not what I'm asking.

I'm simply asking is there a way for us, vb owners, to know; for example, by looking at a list of popular or basic fonts; whether or not the average PC (ie: PCs in general) will already have any given font installed on it before we add that particular font to our board?

Generally the default fonts listed are the regular ones. Anything else is very likely not standard.
