Active Users List resetting to '0'

I noticed that my forum's Active Users list often resets to 0 and all the sessions are deleted. What would be the cause of this and how can I fix this?

The sessions are regularly emptied and should have nothing to do with this if they are browsing with cookies.

Possibly MySQL is being restarted regularly or similiar.
