  • Moving Servers - Lost my forum

Hmm. So new to this stuff and I'm beyond lost.

Here's my error when accessing my site at http://forums.edmontongolf.com.

There seems to have been a problem with the database.
Please try again by clicking the Refresh button in your web browser.
An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, whom you can also contact if the problem persists.
    We apologise for any inconvenience

I've entered in the database name, username, pw into the config.php file. Can someone please help me out. What else do I need to do?

I haven't backed up my forum using telnet because I have no idea how to do such a thing and Canaca support is only email based. I'm now with Netfirms webhosting.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Make sure the details in your config.php file are correct.

This is line 279 from the class file

            $link = $this->functions[$usepconnect ? 'pconnect' : 'connect']("$servername:$port", $username, $password);

I think they are Colin. I haven't uploaded the old database yet. I'll take a screen shot to show you were I am at

Then if you haven't uploaded the database, created the database, or created the user for the database, thus your error, generally after changing hosts your config.php details slightly change.

I'm so pathetic with this stuff.. I haven't set up the database yet have I or is the database the name on the left column.. The blanked out is the username to put in config.php I believe.

Yes, that would be your new username and the name on the side is the database name, Update your config file accordingly.

So far so good, is it still giving you an error about connecting?

I havne' uploaded the .sql file yet.

It gives me No SQL Query! error when I try to upload it.

To backup my file I click export from phpmyadmin then select all and check the save as file box.. Click ok correct?
