I'm having the same problem with the install script that was posted earlier.
After seeing that thread I deleted everything on my host machine, assuming I'd managed to corrupt something along the way and then I:
1) Entered my customer number to redownload the vB zip file.
2) Unzipped the files as directed (I note that contrary to the help file the direcory name created does not include vernum.licnum, just the upload and do-not_upload directorys.
3) Renamed and edited the config.php file
4) Copied the upload directory to the server.
5) Renamed the new folder to "forums" (I know this isn't required - just to keep things simple for them moment)
6) Started my Apache server instance
7) went to http://localhost/forums/install/install.php
8) Copied and pasted the customer number from the original email.
9) Customer number disappears and the customer number prompt reappears.
So, I'm somewhat stymied on this too. I only have one account, so I don't see how I could have downloaded the wrong files. And, the edits to the config file are pretty trivial, and where there was a possibility of mis-typed info I copied/pasted the relevant info. I've confirmed that my user for mysql can log in and has all rights necessary.
Where do I turn next? TIA
bob
BTW - I'm running a test system while I do the initial development, so without some IP manipulation for the host, my site's not currently publically available. If that's needed, I can re-IP this machine to make it visible and update my firewall rules to allow access.
