    Thanks for the suggestion. However that will get rid of the http:// in the prompt but if someone adds it to the URL then you have the same problem. It is a good idea but not a fix.

    Thanks for posting back. If this is not a bug as you stated then will vBulletin even look into it if I report it. If it is not a bug then something is up. I have tried everything I can think of or been suggested to do.
    • Edit the prompt which is a cosmetic fix
    • Tried turning the Enhanced Editor off in your User CP no difference weather I have it on or off.
    • Reinstalled from scratch
    None of these things fixed it. It may be working as designed but definately not working as desired since I get a lot of PM saying links are bad on stuff that was even posted before v3.x. The only thing wrong is vBulletin keeps adding an extra http:// to the link. I am all ears for suggestions. Relook at post #3 the Insert link box is completely different. It is the same as the one here. Is that a hack or what it should look like for version 3.5.3?

    Try this, edit the following file:

    clientscript/vbulletin_textedit.js

    Modify the line as shown below.

    PHP Code:
    When inserting a link get rid of the http://

    (original)
    2346    this.prompt_link('url'urlvbphrase['enter_link_url'], 'http://');

    (new)
    2346    this.prompt_link('url'urlvbphrase['enter_link_url'], '');

    Well since my last post I did do a full reinstall. I get the same bug. Now I just posted this on my site till I get an answer or fix since no one seems to know what causes it.

    Title: Adding Links to forum post bug in vBulletin software

    Message:
    When you add a link to these forums leave out the http:// due to a bug in vBulletins software that do not seem to have an answer for yet. When you add the http:// to your link it gives you a double http://http://. This is a recent bug since vBulletin 3.x that prior to this always worked fine. Till I have an answer just follow the above instructions.

    From the beginning the problem is not so much with the interface as it is with the way it saves the info to the post and opens the link from a post with a link.

    I have searched but can not find the answer for this. When I click the add link button I get the Explorer User Prompt.
    Script Prompt:
    Please enter the URL of your link:
    http://

    When you add a url say http://www.ipdg3.com. If you click it you get a http://http://www.ipdg3.com is this working as designed or just not working right?

    I am using vBulletin 3.5.3 but this has been happening since 3.x. Is it suppose to look like the insert link here where you fet TYPE and URL? I have been upgrading since 2.x and was wondering if I need to just get rid of everything and do a full reinstall?

    Sorry, maybe I don't understand the question but have you tried turning the Enhanced Editor off in your User CP?

    Nope I have not.

    http://forums.devshed.com/ is running version 3.x something a little older then mine. They still get the prompt for the link name and then the link address. I am looking for that to actually work like that agian or work like it does here. Is vBulletin running a hack..? It just stopped working as designed. I have a pretty straight install with little to now mods to the forums.

    http://www.ipdg3.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1416 on my site here look at the #6 link this is what it does on Insert Links or try it. It is the oddest thing. Is there a page I can edit, code I can delete, etc to get it to work like it does here?

    You could start by creating a new style with no parent set. Switch to the new style and try again. If the problem is gone, it is a problem with your custom template.

    No it does not I have added a screen shot from my fourms and vBulletins forums. The "Insert Link" prompt is different and the results from the insert link are different as well. I have upgraded my forums since the 2.x day and wonder if this is not an old trough back from those days. Is 3.5.3 suppose to look like it does here on "Insert Link"? If so how can I default all of my templates to the current version and can the rest of them?
