I originally made this bug report for 3.0.x

    http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=154911

Something weirds been happening on my forum the last couple of months but it seems to be happening more and more now. When users post, sometimes a random Edited By shows up, with a random user name and a random date (i think its usually November 2002), well, it doesnt do any damage but its getting annoying.

Steve replied saying this was impossible in vB and I should revert my templates and files, something I wasnt prepared to do at that stage. However when I upgraded to 3.5.x I did just that, files were overwritten and templates were reverted, but the problem still occured.

Any idea what could be happening?

There is nothing in the default vB that would do this. To troubleshoot this, remove any hacks and disable your plugins, then see if you still have this problem.

If so, reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server.

Next, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it. Do you have the same problem?

If so, this may be due to your language pack. Try the English pack to see if you have the same problem.

Like I said, this happened even on a clean vb3.5.0 install, with NOTHING else installed. And I am using the default language pack.

As I said there really is nothing in vB that would ever cause this. Nonetheless upgrade to 3.5.2 and if you still have this problem with no modifications at all, then please report this in the 3.5.2 Bug Tracker.

Already upgraded to 3.5.2 and still having the same problem, have since installed mods so I know what you guys will say, same thing you always say, "its the mods," but I am telling you, its either vB or something vB has done to the database, not the mods, and not the templates.

It's almost painful to submit any problem here nowadays.

Set up a fresh test forum with all the original vB files and templates. Then if you can reproduce this problem on that forum, let me know. If not, then this will show that the problem is related to one or more changes you made.
