    Moderate new users?

I've down some searching but still unclear.

I've been having a problem spam lately.
I would like all new users' posts to be moderated.
After their first post is approved they can be promoted to registered.

I'm not clear which permissions I should be looking at.
    Is this even possible?

Edit: I got more creative with my search and came across this thread.
I think it is what I am looking for.

I haven't read the other thread, but this is what I would have done.

Default registered usergroup > moderate new posts: Yes.
Posting Members Usergroup (custom added by me) > moderate new posts: no

Promotion: Usergroup promotion from default to posting members, based on postcount 1 or higher.

This would allow all new members to post whatever they want, and you can moderate their posts. If they hit more then 1 post count, they are upgraded to the usergroup where posts aren't moderated.

I feel like a complete idiot.
Where is this? In the usergroup section? I don't see it.

        Admin Control Panel >>

Usergroups > Usergroup Manager > Modify Usergroup
        Default Registered Usergroup
Permission: Put posts in mod queue

Usergroups > Usergroup Manager > Add New Usergroup
(base on Default registered usergroup, and base permissions on default registered usergroup)

Usergroups > Usergroup Manager > Modify Usergroup
        The New Posting Usergroup
Permission: Do NOT put posts in mod queue

Usergroups > Promotions > Add new Promotion
        Applies to default usergroup
        based on posts
        postcount: 1
        Upgrade to usergroup: posting users

        Done.

Thank you. I think I got it now.
The promotion will be an additional secondary usergroup who can post, just like the registered group with the exception that the registered group's posts will be moderated.

I'm nervous about the whole thing though.
I'll backup my database and pick a nice slow weekend to try it.

            This worked very nicely.
One question along the same lines.

If a person has a post in the queue to be approved and I assign that person to the usergroup that does not need to be moderated first (before approval), will that post be automatically approved?

I will also add an additional promotion based on x days registered.
My assumption is that anyone who is spamming will do it as soon as their address is confirmed. A legit user might confirm their email address and not post for days. This way they will not need to have their post approved since they will already be approved for posts.

            Does that make sense?
