    Impex problems

Hi there, I installed vB and imported from phpBB completely fine.

Due to this being in test atm, I decided to import again as the live forum in phpBB had obviously changed. What I did not know was this business about reseting ID's.

Rather than mess about, I re-installed vB to do the final import again, clearing the DB, but this time clicking on import from admincp gives the follwing error:

Connection to source server failed. Check username and password.

The config files have not changed and I can connect to the source phpBB database using MySQL Admin with the same account details no problem?

Can anyone help, I should have switched the sites on Friday, but I just can't get this working.

    Unfortunately this error:

"Connection to source server failed. Check username and password."

Means that you are not allowed to connect remotely to the phpBB database. The possible causes of this error are:

    1. The source info in ImpExConfig.php is wrong.

    2. The server is not available.

    3. Or more likely, the server is rejecting remote connections to MySQL from other servers.

You will need to check each one of these possible causes, with #3 being the most likely one and the one you will not be able to do anything about. This can only be resolved by the host on that server.

If you cannot get the host to open up that server, then you will need to backup and restore this db on your server.

I am trying to import my 3.5 database to a new installation of 3.6 on a new host. Can I do this?

I've made a backup of my existing database. If I copy it to the new server, where do I put it? Right in the forums directory? If so, is the path then still just 'localhost'?

      Thanks.

You will need to have both databases on the same server.

I have them on the same server but not the same directory. I made a backup of my current db. I can ftp it to my forum directory or the root or another directory but not to the exact same location of the new database. (I don't think.) How can I tell impex the location of the backup file?

Impex cannot import a backup file. You will need to restore it to a new database.
