Allow externally linked avatars, but not uploaded ones...?

I want to allow users to set their own avatars. However, i want them to find their own hosting - how do i do this? Ive looked all over, and i cant seem to find a way to turn avatars on without letting users also upload their avatars directly.

There is no function to allow remote hosting of avatars. This requires modifying the code. We cannot officially support code modifications or forums running modified code, however you can try searching or asking for help with this over at www.vbulletin.org.
