Bug in changing email? Weird 404 in admincp

In the admin panel I used to able to assign the same email address to more than one user, even if you couldn't do it in usercp.

Today, when trying to add an already in use email, I got:

"The email address you entered is already in use. If you have forgotten your password, please click here."

The strange part is, why does it mention a password? And when you click the link it goes to a 404 page.

What version of vB are you using?

This is not a bug, this is a feature change. See also the discussion in bug: admin cant change email if in use

You can however set a blank email address.

What about this part? It's still doing this.

The check for a duplicate mail address is in a standard routine, that issue a standard error message when someone try to signup with a mail address that is already in use. The same error message is returned when creating a duplicate mail address from the AdminCP. I agree that the message is confusing.

It's confusing, and when you click, it gets a page not found error.

This is most likely due to mod_security. See this thread:

My users and myself are having issues with blank pages, forbidden and not acceptable errors, what can I do? There is a very good chance your host has installed a add-on for apache called mod_security. While mod_security can be a very powerful tool, misconfigured or overly strict rule sets can interfere with vBulletins

I don't think so Steve (in fact i am sure). What happens is that if you change a user in the AdminCP, and you give him a mail address that is already used, the standard error will be thrown that is also used when a new user register with a duplicate mail address. The phrase emailtaken is used for this.

In this phrase there is a link to <a href="login.php?{1}do=lostpw">
Since you are in the admincp-directory, this link don't lead to a valid page.

It already is in the Bug Tracker, this issue has been talked about before.

                    Bug: duplicate emailk / bug?

However it is marked as Duplicate (which it is not). The confusion is probably caused because there was a similar bug when changing a username. Added to the bug.

I can create users with duplicated email-adresses from ACP, so this phrase should never appear there.

                      Could you reproduce this?
