Strings in phrases

Hi..

I wondered if i could use a little variable/string i've created which calculates the totol pictures in my gallery and displays it, works in templates and php files but not in phrases, if i use for example : "I have $totolphotos pictures" in a phrase it won't work...whats the right way? cheers

You have to pass variables to phrases when they are called.

<phrase 1="value for variable 1" 2="value for variable 2">$vbphrase[phrase_identifier]</phrase>

In the above example, the variables {1} and {2} in the phrase "phrase_identifier" will be replaced with the values you pass in the template.

For your application you can use something like:

<phrase 1="$totolphotos">$vbphrase[[color=red]phrase_identifier[/color]]</phrase>

Change the phrase name appropriately. Then use this text for the phrase:

I have {1} pictures

I tried that, but im lost a little, i show 'fag.php' from the example above, i added a phrase but im lost with "Varname" ..make it up? i made my identifier, i altered the "phrase 1=" to "phrase 10000=" and tried "i Have {10000} pictures" but nothing as yet...im stuck!

I add a new phrase :

<phrase 1="$totalphotos">$vbphrase[totphot]</phrase>

varname 'photototal' for vbulletin product

then add in my phrase : i have {1} photos

well for that i see 'fag.php' and anything else i've tried along the logic path failed me...

i've seen the likes of {1} and {3} in phrases and im sure i suss the idea but im still not getting it or making it work for me

I added the <phrase>etc</phrase> to the navbar template and used : phrase 199="etc etc" and used : "i have {199} pictures" but i get 'ARG:9 UNDEFINED' whatever that is... where do i define it

whoo i see 'register.php?' this is insane!

Just use 1 like I did in my code, not 199 or 10000.

Also put the phrase in the global category to avoid any scope problems.

thanx but in the end i couldnt use it in my phrase, templates sure great using your example above but not used in a phrase edit, to use "i have {1} whatevers" will always show me weirdness regardless of the new phrase added, everything is global it seems, i've tried another example mover at vb.org and yet i couldnt get the $ (which is a global plugin) to render a total in a phrase, i get the theory and with various attempts it seems impossible to me
