    smtp emails

i have a problem with my host who for security reasons will not allow board emails [don't ask why i cannot get an explanation]

i am currently running version 3 software

i did not for a few reasons want to go to 3.5 yet, but for this reason think i am going to have to

i have looked at the SMTP mail function in 3.5 and am lost

have tried a few settings and cannot get it to work

can someone with more knowledge talk me through it

my board domain is diplocks.co.uk, i have a username and password to get into Cpanel or into the server via ftp, do i use those for the name and password or do i need to set something up, i can solve most problems by blundering about but i think i am missing something here

    thanks

If you can't get an explanation, get another host. You would wonder why they do not allow emails, but others do, hmmm? I can't think of a good reason on the basis of security, the settings are quite comprehensive.

It's very hard to know what details to put without knowing your SMTP settings, stupid as that sounds to say. Try something along these lines:

SMTP Host: mail.diplocks.co.uk (That's a guess, but it will likely be that)
    SMTP Port: 25
SMTP Username: [email protected] (Your exact SMTP login details will have been given to your by your host, if you aren't sure then try your primary email address for your hosting account)
    SMTP Password: DONTTELLME
    Secure Connection: No (Mostly likely)
