Can I use this method to change the path from one URL to another? For some reason my smilies use the full URL of my old domain.

Normally you would use a full web path. For example, the full web path corresponding to this URL:

    http://www.yoursite.com/some/image/directory/

    ...is:

    /some/image/directory/

    Note the beginning slash.

Use the full and complete path:

    /public_html/forumcustom/images/custom1/

    Jake,

I see that the smiliepath is relative to the vbulletin installation.

If I want to move from "/public_html/forum/images/smilies/custom1/" to "/public_html/forumcustom/images/custom1/" which is outside the vbulletin installation, what should I write for the new path?

    Thanks a lot Jake.

You can use the query from my previous post. Just change the colored pieces to specify the old and new path. Run multiple queries for different old paths.

Currently I have 3 smilies folders.

    Generic: images/smilies/
    Custom1: images/smilies/custom1/
    Custom2: images/smilies/custom2/

I want to leave the Generic Smilies in the default folder.

But I want to move custom1 and custom2 to a external folder outside the vbulletin folder.

    /forumcustom/images/custom1/
    /forumcustom/images/custom2/

I tried to edit a smilie and I used this path ../forumcustom/images/custom1/smile.gif

I was able to see the smile appearing.

How should I go about updating all the path? I have hundreds of them.

You would have to edit every smilie in your:

Admin CP -> Smilies -> Smilie Manager

An alternative is to run a query to update all smilie paths at once. This query should work (backup first):

    Code:
    UPDATE smilie
    SET smiliepath = REPLACE(smiliepath,'old path','new path')
It is a string replacement. For example, if all of your smilie paths look like this:

    Code:
    images/smilies/<name>.gif
...and you want to change them to be like this:

    Code:
    images/newsmilies/<name>.gif
...then you can use this query:

    Code:
    UPDATE smilie
    SET smiliepath = REPLACE(smiliepath,'/smilies/','/newsmilies/')
After running this query you will need to edit and save one of your smilies in the Admin CP to prompt a rebuild of the smilie cache.

I uploaded a bunch of new smilies to the images directory in a new folder titled smilies2 - I did this in both the root images folder and in the core images folder.
