    I figured it out - there was a username in there rather than the user ID and any new user containing a letter of that name meant I got that error.

    Can't add new users

    My forum is closed to registrations so I manually add new members. I'm trying to register someone since upgrading to 3.5 earlier and I get this message:

    Sorry, this user is protected from being altered in the config.php file by the $config['SpecialUsers']['undeletableusers'] variable.
    The username doesn't exist. It's a brand new member. It happens with whatever username I choose.

    Any ideas?
