  • Server Load Averages

I have been noticing slow forum responce recently so checked my server load and found this

    2.34 1.64 1.42 | 11 Users Online

These figures seem a little high to me given my server stats:

What kind of hosting account? Dedicated Server

Is the MySQL database stored on the same hard drive? Yes

Is the MySQL database stored on another server? No

CPU / RAM / HD (quick) details?
    AMD Sempron 2600
    1 GB RAM
80GB IDE hard drive (7,200 RPM)
    100Mbps port

Web server, PHP and MySQL servers version details?
    CentOS
    PHP 4.3.11
    MySQL 4.1.13-standard

    Forum details:
    members - 494
    threads - 1,617
    posts - 33,700
    online users - Between 15 - 25
    Total Daily users - 60 - 70

    cookie timeout setting? 900

I have raised this issue with my server manager and was told that the server settings had been changed as the server load was at 3. It has come down but I am not sure it has come down enough. Do you have any advice I could pass on to further improve the performance of my server?

Scratch this request. After spending a fair bit of time poking around my server I found a cron job (which was set to run every 5 mins) was creating the increased server load.
