  • SMTP not working for me.

Hello, I have been waiting for this feature for a LONG time, but can't get it to work for me. I've used the same SMTP that I use for email, but when I try to send a password to a user that I created, it sits for a good 5 minutes, then goes to a blank screen. This is a brand new installation of the latest beta. Not an upgrade.
    Thank you!

What are the SMTP settings you've added? (Hide the password of course.)

      Settings

      Here it is:
      Enable email features: yes
Allow users to email other members: yes
      Use secure email sending: yes
      Email flood check: 60
      use mail queue system: yes
number of emails to send per batch: 10
      enable -f : no
      smtp email: yes
      smtp host: smtpauth.earthlink.net
      smtp port: 25
      smtp username: [email protected]
      smtp password: ******
      smtp secure connection: no

I've tried using the IP instead and that didn't seem to work either.

      Thanks for any help!

You might find that your ISP limits SMTP to purely IP ranges within those which belong to them.

I know my ISP NTL only allows SMTP for IP's within the NTL range.

          I think Scott is right:

          smtp host: smtpauth.earthlink.net

I'm sure Earthlink limits who can access their SMTP server to send outgoing mail.

            Godaddy

I've also got a Godaddy email accounts that I can use that reacts the same way. Now, my question about what you're saying is this. The server is connected to a DSL line that I got from Earthlink that came with this email address. Based off that I should be able to send email from that server. Right? I'm doing the testing on the server itself.

What happens if you run the Email Diagnostic from the admincp?

                SMTP Test

I changed the settings to my godaddy account and this is what the test came back with.

                SMTP:smtpout.secureserver.netsendmail_from:[email protected]_path:None

Did it not show any results from the test?

Either an error or email sent check shortly?

                      Error

Ok, tried it at home and got this error.

The mailing function returned an error while trying to send the mail. The following errors were outputted by PHP when attempting to send mail:

Warning: Unexpected response from SMTP server in \includes\class_mail.php on line 473
Check your mail server to ensure it is configured correctly to allow PHP to send mail from it. You should also check your mail server's error log for more diagnostic information.

Are you sure your SMTP server requires authentication? Most ISP servers do not.

If you can pm me your email address i'll send you a new class_mail.php file which you can drop in to give us some more debugging information

Well, looks like it doesn't. I removed the username and password, and the send password to user thing works, but I never get the email.

                          Thanks,
                          Rick

Did you check any spam filters, some forum generated emails are picked up by over zealous spam filters.

Try a few emails in the diagnostic just to be sure.

Funny thing about the diagnostics, is that it reflecting a server & username that I got rid of. Any reason why it's still there or a way than I can update that?
